In 2017, Arcadia University students working with Muralist David Guinn embarked on an ambitious plan to transform the Glenside Train Station in Glenside PA. The project is a collaboration between Cheltenham Township, Arcadia University, and SEPTA.
Hiring David Guinn as the mural artist and adjunct professor was the right fit - his painting techniques give Arcadia students hands-on experience. He is a graduate of Columbia University. Originally trained as an architect, he has painted 40 murals in cities worldwide, including Amman, Jordan; Montreal, Quebec;New York; Washington, D.C.; and Chicago. In Philadelphia, he is represented by projects in almost every neighborhood, including Electric Street (2016), a new mural incorporating programmable LED Neon Flex lighting at 9th and Wharton.
The painted mural comes alive at night with energy-efficient, durable LED NEON FLEX lights that approximate the look of neon. The lights transform the experience of walking through the underpass at night, making it feel safer and much more inviting.
